Music can take you on a journey, it can evoke feelings, even take you to another place. In this solo Piano composition ‘Romance’, a track from my album REVIVED, I hope to take you to the medieval world of castles, knights and maidens in distress.
Technically, its reasonably simple and short – it’s a song without words. However, the musical key is a little more challenging: Bb Minor; lot’s of black notes on the Piano!
I called the piece ‘Romance’, because for me, the musical key of Bb minor ( 5 flats) evokes romance and passion. In fact, I’ve always wanted to write a piece in this key as this is key one of the greatest and most passionate Piano concertos ever written: Tchaikovsky Piano concerto no 1 was written!
I do hope though, your’e initial reactions to my music are not quite as harsh as those from his fellow pianist and peer Rubinstein, who described it as: “worthless and unplayable with passages so fragmented and clumsy and badly written that they were beyond rescue!”
